Couples Therapy
Serving Georgia and MinnesotaCouples Therapy
Whether you're experiencing conflicts, navigating life changes, or simply seeking to deepen your connection, couples therapy offers a collaborative and constructive environment where partners can express their needs and concerns while also learning the tools necessary for a more harmonious and fulfilling partnership.
We draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help you recognize and shift the conflict cycles that keep you stuck, guiding you toward creating a more securely attached, emotionally safe, and lasting bond. Alongside this, we integrate a Psychodynamic approach to explore how past experiences, unconscious motives, and family dynamics may be influencing the way you connect with one another today.
Together, we will uncover the patterns beneath the surface, work through moments of tension with compassion, and build new ways of relating that foster trust, intimacy, and resilience in your relationship.
Areas of Support
-
Childhood experiences can shape how you experience love, trust, intimacy, and emotional safety in your relationship. Couples counseling can help explore how past family dynamics, unhealed childhood trauma, or parental wounds may influence patterns of connection, conflict, and vulnerability, while helping partners develop greater mutual validation, compassion, and emotional regulation so the past does not dictate the relationship you are building today.
-
Our earliest relationships shape how we experience closeness, trust, conflict, and emotional safety. Attachment wounds can show up in relationships as fear of abandonment, difficulty trusting, emotional withdrawal, people-pleasing, or a strong need for reassurance. Couples therapy helps you recognize these patterns and work toward a more secure and emotionally safe bond.
-
Major life changes can place new demands on a relationship. Marriage, becoming parents, career changes, relocation, caregiving, grief, or other transitions can shift roles and expectations between partners. Couples therapy can help you navigate these changes while maintaining connection and strengthening your partnership.
-
Trust can be deeply affected by infidelity, dishonesty, broken agreements, secrecy, or other experiences that create uncertainty within the relationship. Therapy provides a space to process the impact of what happened, understand the underlying relational dynamics, and determine what rebuilding trust can look like for you.
-
Emotional and physical intimacy can change throughout the course of a relationship. Stress, unresolved conflict, life transitions, parenting, trauma, or feeling emotionally disconnected can all affect intimacy. Couples therapy can help you address barriers to closeness and create greater emotional and physical connection.
-
You can love your partner and still feel lonely, unseen, or emotionally disconnected within the relationship. Couples therapy helps you understand what may be creating distance and rebuild emotional closeness, responsiveness, and a sense of connection.
-
When communication breaks down, conversations can quickly turn into arguments, defensiveness, criticism, or silence. Couples therapy provides a space to understand the patterns beneath these interactions, communicate more effectively, and learn to express needs and emotions in ways that create greater understanding and connection.
-
When you are questioning the future of your relationship, it can be difficult to know whether you need to repair, reconnect, redefine, or move forward separately. Couples therapy offers a structured space to slow down, understand the patterns within the relationship, and explore what each partner needs and wants moving forward. Even if that means exploring a healthy uncoupling.
-
Some couples find themselves having the same argument over and over without ever feeling like the underlying issue is resolved. Couples therapy helps you identify the cycle you become caught in, understand what is driving it, and develop new ways of responding to one another.
-
Couples therapy isn't only for relationships in crisis. Some couples seek support before marriage or during a period of relative stability to strengthen their foundation, address potential areas of conflict, and develop the communication and emotional skills needed for a healthy, lasting partnership.
